Delta Dental Coverage Availability & Fees
Like many dental insurance plans, Delta Dental is a fee-for-service provider. That means you or your employer pay upfront for coverage and discounts on general and restorative services you can receive throughout the year. In exchange for a monthly premium which usually costs $50 for an individual and $150 for an individual, you may be eligible for up to $1,500 worth of care during a calendar year (once you have met your deductible).
It is important to remember that Delta Dental insurance is set on a calendar year and unused benefits will usually not rollover from one year to the next. Our office can help you maximize your coverage and strategically plan your care to reduce your out-of-pocket costs as much as possible.
The specific features of your plan will vary based on certain decisions made at the time of enrollment. For example, your employer may choose to lower their costs to have you pay a higher copay. In general, though, you can expect your plan to look something like this once you have met your deductible:
- Preventive dental care: 100% covered. This includes two checkups and cleanings per year. These services do not fall within your deductible, which means they are always free for you.
- Restorative dental care: 50% to 80% covered. The coverage varies based on the complexity of the service being rendered. For example, simple fillings receive maximum coverage, while a crown or complex root canal may be covered by half.
